UK Spec Mugen Honda Civic Type R FN2 Video

Ok, so it seems I was wrong. The “Artists Impression” that I posted last week (See here – Mugen Civic Type R) actually appears to be official renderings! This is an official video showing the new FN2 Mugen Civic Type R being thrashed around a circuit. I can’t wait for these to arrive (supposedly due this summer).

What do you think? I’m still not sold on the rear spoiler, but without a doubt this is the best looking FN2 I have ever seen. Leave your comments below. Oh, and if anyone at Honda is reading this – I’ll take one please!

Mugen Tuned FN2 Coming soon..

***Please note that TweakCulture has moved! Please click here to view this post on the new server***

Honda’s latest (FN2) Civic Type R has never really gone down well with enthusiasts, with the collective opinion being that the rear suspension set up is inferior to the previous generation (EP3) due to the cost saving torsion bar. It has recently been announced that Honda have invited their tuner of choice Mugen to breath their magic on the current Type R.

The car will be built by Mugen Europe at the former Cosworth owned facility in Northampton, and is expected to be limited to just 100 examples. That wont come as much of a suprise once you find out that the anticipated cost will be £35-40,000! Ouch!

The Mugen-tuned FN2 is expected to be powered by the 240bhp version that was used in the Mugen version of the FD2 Civic Type R saloon. It is also rumoured to be a 2 seater which i would imagine will also include a roll cage to compete with the Renault Megane R26R.

This comes as very welcome news to the UK Honda fans, but there is one thing I want to know… Why won’t Honda bring the Japanese FD2 (Saloon) Civic Type R to Europe? In Japan Mugen released (to HUGE critical acclaim) the Mugen RR spec Civic Type R which is an amazing machine, and noticably faster than the standard FD2 (Saloon) which in itself is noticably faster than the watered down European spec FN2.

The hardcore Mugen Civic Type R will also most likely get some exclusive hardcore exterior parts such as carbon fibre and forged wheels. I am fairly sure that Honda will keep these uprated parts exclusive to the Mugen spec car as they have with the previous JDM Mugen models – with owners having to prove ownership before being able to buy spares.

At the moment this is all just rumour, but I expect Honda to make an official announcement in the next couple of months. Keep your eyes on this blog for the latest details!

***EDIT***

I followed this thread up with an artists impression of what the car might look like, take a look here – Mugen Civic Type R FN2 Pics

Perfect EK9 – Tegboys EK9 Ground up build

Following on from last nights post, here are some more details the build that I consider to be the best EK9 in the UK by far…

Following an unfortunate incident that bent his old DC2 Integra beyond repair, James had to do something drastic to make the most of a bad situation. Fortunately he came across a bit of good luck with a rolling EK9 Civic shell being found at reasonable money – which was snapped up and stored while the project funds accumulated.

The thing I like about this build is that everything is being done properly, with no short cuts or half measures being settled for. If something isnt available due to financial reasons then it is held off until it is available with nothing that wasnt on the original shopping list making it in. If you want to a particular product then be patient and wait until you find it at a price you can afford!

I wont go into too many details of the build, because if you want to see more info on the build (and even if you dont!) you should check out Tegboy’s build up thread on Civiclife here – Ground Up EK9 Build Up.

Last night I went to peep this project for the 1st time, and even after reading through the project build up (several times) I was blown away by the quality. The car isnt finished yet, with just a few more things left to do but even so the standard of finish on this car is like no other EK9 I have seen in the flesh!

I only managed to take about 20 photos last night as the light was fading fast and as the car isnt done yet I thought I’d find an excuse to go back and see it once its up and running (hopefully snag a ride too!). Here are a few photos from last night:

The only thing that makes this project not perfect (for me) is that it isnt Pheonix Yellow. If it was then it would be the EXACT same Nine that I have dreamed about for a long time! Any comments will be seen by Tegboy – so lavish praise on him in the comments people!
